Meet Suzi

The Artist

Suzi Marquess Long 1947 -

Born and raised in Santa Cruz, California, shipped off to NYC to secretarial school at the age of 17, types like the wind. Suzi always hated being a seretary but enjoyed the dexterity of nimble fingers that still play the guitar and piano and wield a mean paintbrush. Finding her niche with pastels, Suzi paints the North Coast and sells her work in her watertower gallery, The World of Suzi Long, in Mendocino. Many people from around the globe have been inspired by the affable, friendly three-time cancer survivor who makes you laugh, shares your tears, and paints for her life.

Her art career started as Whimsy Walls, a mural painter in Honolulu in 1979.  After moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in the late '80's, Suzi became a minor celebrity painting residential and commercial murals.  She has been featured several times in Window & Wall Ideas magazine, Sunset Books, and most of the Bay Area newspapers.

She began her pastel painting career in 2001 by winning Best of Show in the Napa Flyway Festival. She has an impressive list of awards.

Suzi is an associate member of the Pastel Society of America, and an active member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast.

Her work has been juried into many national shows. She was included in the International Artist's publication, "100 Ways to Paint a Landscape" as well as the recent "Artists of the Mendocino Coast" publication. You may call her at 707-937-5664.
